As a photographer I am always looking for ways to improve my work. I spend at least a few minutes a day reading new tutorials and once in a while I like to study the work of other photographers. I don’t like to look at other people’s pictures often because I’ve found it just clouds my own creativity but I do sit down at least once a month to catch up with my favorite artists. Whenever I see an image that inspires me I like to analyze it. Why is this good? What equipment was used? How did they edit? What time of day was this shot? What compositional tricks did they use? How can I use this information to better my own photographs?
I spend most of my time shooting and editing and putting theory into practice. Tonight I decided to sit down and work on teaching myself some new editing techniques so I went back through my archives and found some of the raw-files I’ve saved.
Usually my photos end up being really saturated and contrasty but I’ve always admired the pretty pastel-film-like colors other photogs get and I wanted to see if I could recreate that for myself. I’m still not where I’d like to be but I’m getting close!
All of the following pictures are about two years old (so my photography has improved…I hope) but the edits are fresh!
I used to love doing silly pin-up pictures! I haven’t done any recently because I feel my hair would throw everything off. Maybe I’ll whip out the old sailor shorts soon though….
Editing these photos made me miss the summertime.
