My laptop is broken…again…. so it is kind of a desktop now. My microwave is also broken, it tried to blow itself up (and most of the food left in the house is microwave-food). My husband has my car today because his is out of gas and we are out of money. There are so many inconvenient and imperfect things happening right now but you know what? I’m still choosing to be happy anyway. I’m making the best of things and I’m choosing to be grateful for the awesome couple of weeks I’ve just had.
I’ve been so busy the past fourteen days I haven’t had time to write or edit any of the photos I’ve taken. I’ve spent mornings at the beach and evenings out with friends. I went to a local art museum, I started volunteering at the cat shelter, I jumped in a pool in all my clothes! I went to the Phoebus Fall festival, Tidewater Comic Con, and the Flotilla 61 Social cookout. I’ve had my favorite kind of coffee by a fountain filled with ducks, I’ve listened to bad karaoke while eating spicy nachos, and I spent a whole day sewing and enjoying my homemade soup. I’ve altered dresses and hoodies, created a giant hammer for my cosplay and designed a subspace bag from scratch. I’ve met so many fun and amazing people and I was interviewed for a local podcast/youtube show. I’ve made new friends, reconnected with old friends and spent a great amount of time with my best friends. It’s been a fantastic fortnight.
Here are my last two weeks in photographs:
Tuesday October 7th: I tried to take some creepy Halloween pictures but I hated all the results. It happens.
Wednesday October 8th: I woke up super early to photograph the lunar eclipse but it coincided with sunrise so I didn’t get any good shots. It was also my first official day of having my own car back! So I drove to another town, picked up my best friend and we spent the day together. Later in the evening my friend Caitlyn came over and everyone helped me start working on my giant Ramona Flower’s hammer. Afterwards the three of us had a late dessert at chilli’s!
Thursday October 9th: I went around town and shot some point and shoot pictures for a Mortal Muses post. My Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla had dry suit training but because I am so small I didn’t have my dry suit yet (in fact I should be getting it tonight) so I took pictures while everyone else got in the pool. Eventually I felt left out so I jumped in anyway…in all my clothes. It was a lot of fun and I think we all bonded a little bit.
Friday October 10th: I started my day off at Aromas, my favorite coffee shop ever, and I enjoyed a leisurely morning by the fountain at City Center before driving into Norfolk for the first time alone. Surprisingly it was a breeze! Then Chelsea, an old friend from High School and I had lunch in our little city of Norfolk before going to the Chrysler Museum of Art (which is a free museum by the way). It was great reconnecting and I had a ton of fun exploring the museum with her!
Saturday October 11th: First thing in the morning I went out to the Hampton Roads executive airport so I could meet with the air auxiliary flotilla. One of my training buddies also came along and we found out what we will have to do to join the air program. Then I came home and went to the Phoebus Fall Festival.
Sunday October 12th: Dungeons and dragons night!
Monday October 13th : I volunteered at a cat shelter for the first time!
Tuesday October 14th
Wednesday October 15th: I ate soup all day, while I sewed and watched Ghost-Hunters on tv! It was fabulous.
Thursday October 16th: Flotilla 61 had its monthly business meeting, I was finally issued a mustang suit (and everyone laughed at me when I tried it on), there was a rad sunset and afterwards I met up with Elijah and we listened to karaoke at apple-bees. I ate beforehand but I tried some of his nachos, and they were…spicy.
Friday October 17th: I don’t have ANY pictures from this day. I’m pretty sure I spent my whole day cleaning and trying to edit photos. Also Elijah slept over in preparation for the convention.
Saturday October 18th: Tidewater Comicon day! We all had the BEST time! We spent most of the day chasing down cosplayers and fan-girling pretty hard. A bunch of people even recognized my character, which was shocking! I posed for photos, I did an interview for a local podcast, I got picked on by ghostbusters, everyone loved my hammer, and one of the vendors even gave me a free bag of candy because they liked my outfit! We met so many people, took so many pictures, and had an amazing time. There was also a gem and mineral convention going on next door so I went and bought a new rock for my collection. Afterwards everyone came back to my house, where there was a one-sided nerf war. Then we got ice cream and explored downtown Hampton.
Sunday October 19th: I have no pictures from this day! We went to the flotilla social-cook out and we had a surprisingly good time. We got a chance to get to know everyone better and I got to meet my flotilla commander’s dog, Abby! I juggled for everyone and I found out one of the coxswains can also juggle! We learned a lot about everyone and afterwards we had a sort of impromptu game of dungeons and dragons with my best friend and one of the guys from my flotilla and it was so much fun!
Monday October 20th: This is today! My laptop is broken, and being painfully slow even as I type this….but my only goal for the day was to edit these photos and write this blog post. And it has literally taken all day. If there are any typos in this …I’m not fixing them.
